Scott Redding qualified 2nd on the grid, so we were expecting an exciting race. After leading for most of the Race, closely followed by Takaaki Nakagami and Thomas Luthi, Scott dropped into second place. However, after a few close laps, Scott regained the lead to take the chequered flag. This was easily the most exciting race of the day and great to see Scott win in front of his home crowd. Later in the day, I managed to borrow a pit pass and bumped into Scott (see pic below)

Cal Crutchlow had a difficult weekend with 2 high speed (almost 300kph) crashes during the free practice sessions. After the second crash Marc Marquez came down in exactly the same spot as Cal while Cal was still on the ground. An observant Marshall spotted Marc's bike heading at high speed towards Cal's and just managed to warn everyone in time. Marc's bike hit Cals at high speed but luckily everyone was clear (just). This crash dislocated Marc's shoulder and for a while it was uncertain whether he would be able to race. The doctors cleared Marc to race, so we did not miss out on his unique racing style. Cal started 3rd on the grid but did not get a great start and eventually slipped back to 7th. Lorenzo took an early lead and was chased closely throughout the race by Marc Marquez. Marc did make a successful pass at the end of the race to take the lead but Lorenzo was quick to respond, taking the lead back before the chequered flag.
